With almost 150 years of history, Hospital Sant Joan de Déu is currently one of four paediatric European university hospitals that attends to the most children.

In paediatrics, the hospital has pioneering units such as the heart, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery, oncology, foetal medicine and ophthalmology units. It also excels in highly specialised areas such as epilepsy surgery, bone marrow transplants or the diagnosis, care and research of rare diseases.

The hospital has a research programme specialised in infants and young people among the four most relevant in Europe, with a pioneering clinical trials unit. The most prominent research lines are those of children’s oncology and its molecular biology, rare diseases, diseases caused at the foetal age and infectious diseases.
